So, I haven't been on in months. I'm not dead. My comp is, though... kinda.

Either way, I've lost all my work for the past few years in one fell swoop, which of course killed me interest to make more, and then to top it off, my comp dies for weeks at a time mysteriously. Point being, I've been finding drawing digitally pointless since it will shut off randomly and make me lose all my work, and at the same time I have no scanner to upload traditional.

THE BASICS: write a Christmas/Holiday wish list. It can be any 10 wishes you'd like to have granted, no matter what they are. Possible or seemingly impossible. People look and grant the wishes if they can. It's not about "OMFG PRESENTS", it's about making someone else's holiday a little brighter by giving. It's just a good feeling to give.

STEP ONE

** Make a post in your journal. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fun ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

** If you wish for real possible things, make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you. In this case, you can always just note someone on dA.

** Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your journal, so that others can join in and participate to spread the holiday joy!

STEP TWO

** Surf around your friend list to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

** If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

** You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

NOW LET'S SEE IT!

1. I wish I was a doctor so people would stop asking why I carry around a scalpel.

2. I wish for Fanart of my OC, Mortimer.

punk-luthien.deviantart.com/ar…
fav.me/d2q5tlq

I'mma stop saying  "I wish" now. It's implied.

3. Daz llamas. The # of my llama blood brothers is growing, but not rapidly enough! In the words of the amazing :iconhumon:, "ME SANDY BODY FEELS EMPTY!!!"

4. Critiques. Mean ones. Like really mean. Like stab me in the back, kick me while I'm down, and spit in my eye as you steal my lunch money mean. Make em scar, that's how a stubborn artist like myself learns.

5. People to take my critiques a little more seriously. A lot of my friends on dA do, such as :iconstarlightsovereign:, :iconlittleapple4o:, and :iconmaku-chii: to name a few.

But the VAST MAJORITY   (and I can't emphasize that enough, literally at least 9 out of 10 people) who request critiques will either throw a hissy fit when you find something wrong or will completely ignore that you even said anything and be like "thanks for the comment" to a critique that took 1/2 hour to write and then they repeat every issue I just pointed out in their next drawings.

I understand that "your line needs work" won't make the lineart on the next drawing perfect (or even help it improve). I understand "the color scheme is tacky" won't bless you with some divine brilliance at coloring. In fact, I can hardly ever fix something in my drawings even if I see that it's tacky. But thinking that people should (and ASKING them to) take time out of their day to review your art while you specifically ignore everything they say sure as hell doesn't make you many friends.

Admittedly, I'm way too prissy and take it too personally, but I only critique people who ASK for one. If you ask for a critique, USE IT. I generally put at least ten minutes in writing them, even if they're short, so at least put ONE thought into utilizing it.

6. Me to stop having such a defensive personality. Even when people give me critiques which I ask for I'll explain why something they pointed out turned out the way it was (like they care?), and the entire time I'll be thinking to myself "stop writing that, you sound like you were caught red-handed and trying to pitch an alibi," but I still do it! D: Sorry people, I know I do it but I can't stop! x_x

7. :iconyour-frienemy: 's Da page to stop glitching out on my computer! I want to be able to keep up with his revised comic! D: And so should you. Go visit and read. Go go. Shoo.

Also check out :iconheytayholt: and his comic since its awesome and he drew me a Mortimer.

loominate.deviantart.com/art/F… Aweeeesooome.

8. To find out what happened to :iconi-riya:.
COMPLETED Thank you Arsh. :3 You rockz!

:iconmorya: (the reason I mostly draw black and white) and :iconi-riya: (the reason I started drawing anime-style) are my two favorite artists of all time and they both stopped updating dA basically the same time I joined (Super D: ). Luckily, Morya seems to have come back recently (you shoulda seen me jump out of my seat like a giddy schoolgirl when I saw a new deviation on his page). However, I-riya is still mia and I'd like to know if she has a new page, or she stopped drawing, or what. D:

Either way, at least go check them both out and show 'em some love and support! You won't be disappointed, either way.

9. I'm trying to reach enough points to finally buy an icon from the infamous and heavily armed vigilante, :icona-k-u:. I don't want donations (or a free icon! Don't even try it! I'm armed and dangerous!), but rather some links / references to contests that I might stand a chance in. In addition, I'd also like cool contests that might help me improve artistically by thinking outside da' box.
'Tis the box, presumably. :iconbox:

10. I wish I was more skilled with software and websites. I can draw a freaking traditional commission the size of my body in 2 1/2 hours but I've spent nearly 3 months so far, and nearly 8 hours a day on some days, trying to finish COLORING ONE
gift art for :iconflamefairy:. Also, I've taken apart and repaired my ps2, my xbox360, two computers, and a dvd player, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to use facebook.

Damn, I said "I wish" on that last one.

Also, this is just food for thought, not a sincere wish: But I wish that the "18+" thing I added in my signature didn't actually increase my daily views by 33%. But it did. And it continues to do so.

Thanks for reading. Sorry my wishes are either whiny or lame for the most part. It's how I roll.

Was tagged once again! This one by :iconmaku-chii:

I like these since they take like 3 seconds and help you relax. :3

Goal: Post 10 things about yourself that no one knows.

1) I have maple syrup-flavored lollipops.

2) >:3 I name everything Mortimer, which is due to an experience in 7th grade.

3) I love Teriyaki anything... except fish.

4) I don't read the endings to books.

5) I'm unstoppable at checkers >:3

6) I try to refer to everyone as "he" or "him" because in English it's proper to use a masculine noun if you don't want to specify.

7) I slack off equally with how I work. Symmetry is important in work ethic. :3

8) I'm obsessive compulsive about cleanliness. I can't touch doorknobs so I always look like a mental patient trying to extend my sleeve over my hand so I can open a door.

9) I worked as a newspaper editor / website updater as a kid, so I know lots of cool, funny, stupid stories about robberies, mishaps, etc. etc.

10) I think the true sign of an artist is his skill at ranting. A passionate artist can go on for hours about a topic he truly loves, and a piece of art from the creator's soul is always more beautiful than something loaded with socio-political complaints.

I tag you if you read this!

Cool Psychology

I read somewhere, albeit briefly, that people who draw characters or objects closer to the right side of the paper or facing to the right have a more optimistic mindset and expect stardom.

And I think that kind of makes sense, since most beginner artists like to draw/ have an easier time drawing their characters to the right of the screen or facing right. These people are usually viciously optimistic and have no doubt that their comics will one day become famous and eventually be animated.

Whereas ultra-pessimistic people such as myself who sell below amateur art for below minimum wage to pay for school supplies and generally hate their work feel more comfortable drawing things facing left... or to the left side of the page.

I'm going to end up looking for some comics online and seeing how mangakas and comic artists draw now. xD

On a whinier note, :feel free to leave here:

What kind of PUBLIC COLLEGE beginner art class assigns 12 hrs of homework a week? Just remember where you teach before you set guidelines for your class...

Also, current progress: currently animating Angie's and Jeff's b-day gifts, partially giving up (after 4 months) on coloring flame-fairy's gift, finishing details on charlottes bday gift, applying colors to frienemy's gift, constantly refixing character for maka's contest (well... gift now. missed the EXTENDED deadline), setting down the outline for Arsh's contest, and secretly trying to combine christy's bday and xmas gifts together, trying to figure out a pose for arsh's request, and starting the details for q.o.smiley's request..

Things are definitely gonna pop out of order so don't be offended if yours doesn't show up first... or for a while...

That is all.
